Things your friend in her post partum era wish you knew but can’t tell you.

One of the toughest seasons in friendship is when one goes on to become a mom before another. Because the one who is not a mom yet may not be able to fully comprehend the real demands of motherhood, the relationship can be strained. Many times, if not all the time, no woman is able to fully empathize with a nursing mom until she experiences it herself. It just can’t be explained.
Below are a few things that may help you understand your friend better and cut them some slack.
- Your friend in her post partum era is on work mode all day, 24/7. There is a constant Demand for her attention from the baby, in some cases from her family and at work. This keeps your friend in a perpetually exausted state without getting enough rest.
- Your friend is sleep deprived because her brain wakes up to her baby’s need. She won’t be able to ever sleep at a long stretch. Her sleep is often broken into one or two hours.
- Her brain changes completely. Her brain changes for her to be at high alert for the baby. This may cause outward behavior that looks like suspicion of every one around her and over protectiveness. She’s only trying to care for the baby the way she knows how to despite being exhausted and sleep deprived.
- Without help, most new moms suffer post partum depression. What they need is support, encouragement and love, not criticism of any kind. This is the era to leave feedbacks in your back pockets.
- Pending on the kind of relationship you have, if you can stop by to relieve her of her work, you’re doing the most invaluable thing for her.
- Unless the baby is less than 3 months, May have been treated of jaundice, every time you see your friend, carry the baby and help them get a break no matter how little even though you should not do little.
- Unless your friend likes gist and wants it, this is not time for gist. Her free time maybe the only break she gets to rest.
- Never assume anything. Ask the right questions. Alway ask “how can I be of help to you” ?. “What can I do that can be most beneficial to you in this season.
- Pray more for your friend and her baby . She needs it more than ever.
- Do of buy her her favorite thing that you can afford. Don’t break the bank.
- Your friend maybe very forgetful. She is not deliberately forgetful. Something called “mommy brain” is happening to her.
