A new mom’s brain changes drastically and research has shown that it never returns to its previous state or form. A mother’s sense of alertness increases as a biological protocol to keep the baby safe. So naturally, a new mom can easily come across as been over protective but it’s just mommy brain at work. If you study animals and birds, you’d observe behavioral changes in mammals.
When a woman is undergoing more stress postpartum, her sensitivity and protectiveness heightens. Somewhere in her mind, she feels that anything that goes wrong with the child will translate to more work, more stress for her. She’d be more loud about things to do and no to do, want to be more strict about dos and don’t s.
When you observe this in your spouse, it’s not time to argue or start trying to be logical. It’s time to understand that her mom instincts are kicking in. See it as a woman tending a seed to grow and anticipating it’s growth for nine months. See her post postpartum season as a shoot finally sprouting and the awareness that pest and weeds can grow at anytime. See her actions like she’s protecting her precious plant from pests and weeds.
With this perspective, the only way to be of help is to try to follow her dos and don’t s and help relieve her of more stress. You can share resources to relieve her of her concerns. But this is not the time to dismiss her concerns and worries. This is the time to show understanding.
In case you didn’t know, most women get suspicious of everything this season. They wonder if there’s an hidden agenda to hurt the child. This particularly is a sign that the woman is undergoing postpartum depression. A depressed person doesn’t need to be straightened out. A depressed person needs help.
If you’re experiencing any of these things or know someone who is, I’d recommend you book a session with an expert on Elmaf.co for them.
